Caper Sauce
Yield: 12 servings
1 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon horseradish
1/4 cup capers
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1/4 cup sour cream
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon Dijon-style mustard
Combine mayonnaise, capers, sour cream, mustard, horseradish, vinegar and sugar. Mix well.
Serve with Beef with Caper Sauce or with any roast beef.

The Caper has a long history of being cultivated; capers were noted as being a marketable commodity for the ancient Greeks by Dioscorides and their use was mentioned by the Roman scholar, Pliny the Elder. In this several millennia of use a simple rule for cultivation of caper bush has developed, that is to give plants a similarly harsh condition as it would grow in naturally. Caper bushes thrive when planted in lean well drained soil in a hot sunny location with it little or no water. Although appreciative of some summer irrigation in well drained soil, a sure way to kill a caper bush is to over water it. Tip growth can be damaged by temperatures in the mid 20's° F but plants are root hardy down to at least 18° F. A simple rule of thumb is that the caper bush can be planted where the olive tree grows. As an ornamental plant caper bushes can be an attractive loose groundcover, a specimen small shrub or can be used as an espalier, which presents the flower buds well for picking. The caper bush is salt-tolerant and will flourish along shores within sea-spray zones. As flowers are born on first-year branches, one can cut back plants back annually without sacrificing flowering and have a healthier and bushier plant. In colder regions the Caper should be grown in a pot and set outside in the summer and brought inside in the winter. The caper plant is well known for the culinary properties of the caper, the immature flower buds which have been pickled in vinegar or preserved in granular salt. They have long been used in recipes of salads, pasta, meat, sauces and garnishes to add a pungent spicy flavor and aroma to food.

Although some comparisons were drawn between Ritchie and Quentin Tarantino, it would be unfair to discount the brilliant wit of the story and the innovative camerawork that the director brings to his debut feature. Not since The Krays has there been such an accurate depiction of the East End and its more colorful characters. Indicative of the social stratosphere in London, Ritchie's movie is a hilarious and at times touching account of friendships and loyalty. The director and his mates (who make up most of the cast) clearly are enjoying themselves here. This comes across in some shining performances, in particular from ex-footballer Vinnie Jones (Big Chris) and an over-the-top Vas Blackwood (as Rory Breaker), who very nearly steals the show. Full of quirky vernacular and clever tension-packed action sequences, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is a triumph--a perfect blend of intelligence, humor, and suspense. --Jeremy Storey

Scooby Doo! Classic Creep Capers is a single-player game in which the goal is to solve three mysteries (two of them based on classic episodes; the other is all new). You play the game as Shaggy while Scooby-Doo tags along, nipping at your heels as you move around the game's various levels. The graphics are completely cartoon-style, and the game is played from a third-person perspective.
Nobody actually dies in this game, which is good. So, instead of the life meter common to most adventure games, Classic Creep Capers has a courage meter, which lets you know how much more fright Shag and Scoob can stand without bolting out of the level and having to start anew. Each time something scares them--which happens pretty frequently--they lose some of their courage, and the game pauses to feature a shake animation.
The gameplay is very straightforward--sometimes inanely so. What you're asked to do is move Shaggy through each level, picking up clues and various other items that can be used to trap the villainous level bosses. You can't proceed from one level to the next until you've picked up everything.
While unraveling these mysteries, players use the A button for practically everything. The player presses it to search for things, pick up items, and to talk to people. The only other button used is the R button, which opens up the game's menu screen. It's just a matter of tapping the A button to activate a particular item and use it or give it to the gang to help solve the mystery. It's all very simple, which turns out to be one of the game's strengths.
Although the idea of unmasking fake ghosts will no doubt appeal to the Saturday-morning nostalgia of older gamers, this game is aimed squarely at the younger set in both its content and gameplay. --Todd Mowatt

Rather than having a "death" meter, as in most games of its kind, SCOOBY-DOO: Classic Creep Capers has a courage meter Scoob and Shag flee the scene if they get too scared. There are plenty of clues hidden throughout the game's expansive levels, but if you're not careful the bad guys might get to you before you can solve the mysteries. While the game certainly offers something for nostalgic fans of the series, it's a hilarious, original take that will keep gamers challenged as well.
