Brandy Alexander Pie
1 envelope unflavored gelatine
1/2 cup cold water
2/3 cup granulated sugar
Pinch of salt
3 eggs, separated
1/3 cup cognac
1/3 cup crème de cacao
2 cups whipping cream, whipped and divided
1 (9-inch) graham cracker crust
Chocolate curls (for garnish)
In saucepan sprinkle gelatine over water. Add 1/3 cup sugar, salt and egg yolks. Stir. Heat and continue stirring until thick. Do not boil. Remove from heat and add cognac and crème de cacao. Chill until the mixture mounds slightly when dropped from a spoon.
Beat egg whites until stiff. Add remaining sugar and fold into mixture. Fold in one cup whipped cream. Turn into crust. Chill.
Garnish with remaining whipped cream and chocolate curls.

In the first, Steve and his dog Blue's house is labeled to discover what book Blue wants to have read to her. The labels (everything from "refrigerator" to "wall") are treated lightly, Steve mostly asking the audience to name the first letter of each word. Steve and Blue also work on constructing a simple sentence.
In the second episode, Blue wants to buy something. Simple counting games and a shopping trip to The Present Store make for a solid exploration of numbers. Addition, subtraction, and even fractions are on the menu. --Doug Thomas

More is not necessarily better. A glitzy Hollywood cast and a big budget did not improve the wonderful 1957 teleplay (or its equally charming 1964 remake) upon which this version is based. This is partly because Brandy, cast in the title role, cannot act. Not helping matters are Whoopi Goldberg as the prince's mother and Jason Alexander as his valet. Their shtick wears thin very quickly. However, Paolo Montalban is charismatic as the prince, and Whitney Houston plays a fairy godmother with pizzazz. The production cost millions, and is certainly lavish, but the whole affair feels forced and overdone, reminding one of a prom queen wearing too much makeup. It does deserve credit for a multi-ethnic cast, the addition of two new songs and a hip attitude. However, the 1964 version (the original was not taped) is much sweeter and more romantic.
