Tex Mex Turkey Sandwich
8 large slices dense good-quality bread
4 slices turkey or smoked turkey (or enough sliced
turkey meat to cover the bread)
4 ounces chopped canned green chilies
Slices of jalapeno or pickled jalapeno pepper, optional
8 to 12 ounces grated Monterey Jack cheese
On 4 slices of bread, layer equal amounts of turkey, chilies and cheese. Place sandwiches about 4 inches from preheated broiler and broil long enough to melt cheese (2 minutes or so). Top with second bread slice.

Los Lonely Boys have an impressive sound, on CD or in concert. Sound will never be a problem for this group, but although Forgiven is well executed technically, Los Lonely Boys have been doing the same song over and over for years. If you have listened to three of their songs, you have heard them all. This CD is no different. It's the same usual rock/pop with a few Latin touches in the Santana style. It's good that the group has a signature sound, but it doesn't mean that it's alright to make the same album time and again. This is truly a band of brothers, led by guitarist/vocalist Henry Garza and his younger, bass-and-drum-playing siblings Jojo and Ringo. Like a lot of groups, they had to move away to achieve fame--in their case, to Nashville. But after the release of their EP, Willie Nelson heard them, put them on tour as his opening act, and recorded them at his studio. Stylistically, the Garza brothers' bilingual songs about love and life combine Stevie Ray Vaughan blues, Santana-style guitar licks and R&B. Nelson helps out on guitar, with Reese Wynans on keyboards. Produced by Keb Mo and B.B. King producer John Porter, the music is honest, driving, and down home, especially on the organ-filled uptempo tracks "Senorita" and "Tell Me Why." Almost as welcome as a shaker full of martinis, The Complete Thin Man Collection represents an eagerly awaited DVD milestone for fans of the fizzy MGM movie series. The best film in the series came first: The Thin Man (1934), W.S. Van Dyke's marvelous adaptation of a Dashiell Hammet novel. The movie gods were in a generous mood when they paired William Powell and Myrna Loy as Nick and Nora Charles, the upper-class sophisticates whose sleuthing escapades somehow joined the classic form of the whodunit with the giddyup of screwball comedy. Among the series' many attributes, one of its most radical notions was the idea that a married couple might find each other delightful and view life as a goofy adventure together.
It is common wisdom that the Thin Man sequels adhere to the law of diminishing returns, and while none of the follow-ups reach the diamond level of the first film, all afford pleasures. There's the cocktail-swilling chemistry of Powell and Loy, for one thing, as well as the considerable satisfaction of average movies made during the studio system: the craftsmanship of studio hands, and a gallery of terrific character actors filling in supporting roles. First sequel After the Thin Man (1936) is very good, with the couple in San Francisco and a supporting part for rising player James Stewart. The scenery moves again, to Long Island, for the rather impudently-titled Another Thin Man (1939), which adds baby Nick, Jr., to the mix (a "bad idea," thought Pauline Kael, perhaps a sign of the domestication of the series).
Shadow of the Thin Man (1941) sets the action around a racetrack, and is the last of the series to be directed by the fast-working Van Dyke. The Thin Man Goes Home (1944) finds Nick escorting family to his parents' house for a visit. Song of the Thin Man (1947) engagingly adds a jazz milieu to the Charles's detective work; at this point, Nick, Jr. was played by child star Dean Stockwell. The series stuck with certain staples: the unveiling of the guilty party, a wirehaired terrier named Asta (who became a star in its own right), and booze. When Nick opines, in the first film, that a dry martini should always be shaken to "waltz time," you know why audiences fell in love with these guilt-free comedies. --Robert Horton

Can a television trivia slacker dude prevent a crazed Soviet agent from blowing up Los Angeles with a nuclear bomb? This question might not exactly beg for an answer, but in Fox Hunt, you'll have a pretty good time trying to figure it out. In this comedy spy thriller from Capcom, you can teach a guy how to be a spy, but you can't make him cover his mouth when he burps or teach him to speak to women without making sexist or insulting remarks. Luckily, the hero, Jack Fremont, doesn't need to be suave or debonair to make this interactive movie entertaining. With 10 different solutions to the mission and a cast of wacky characters that even includes Elvis, Fox Hunt has enough entertainment value. Like a serious spy movie, Fox Hunt has beautiful women, double agents, and exotic locations (Las Vegas and Colorado to name two...) but outdoes even Sean Connery in some of its action scenes. When was the last time you saw 007 take a jet-propelled wheelchair ride through a hospital, escape from crossdressing Soviets, or shoot down anvil-wielding Rob Lowe clones while freefalling from 20,000 feet? Now, that's action. Although Fox Hunt is not particularly violent, when Fremont meets with a fatal accident, you are treated to the sound of his crushing bones or the graceful arc of his body as it flies out of a multi-story building. The spectacular clarity of the digitized video, due in part to the fact that the original piece was shot in 16mm, and the rocking soundtrack give Fox Hunt the look and feel of an actual movie. Capcom's Fox Hunt is an interactive movie that merits more than a showing or two. It's silly and amusing but surprisingly well developed and fun to play.
