Lemons, limes, oranges,
grapefruits or tangerines
Vodka
Peel fruit in strips, discarding all the white pith. Place the strips in a jar, then cover them with a good-quality vodka. Cover the jar tightly and let it stand at room temperature for two weeks, shaking the jar daily.
Discard the peel, replace it with fresh peel, and let it stand for two more weeks. Remove the peel, and use the flavored vodka in recipes calling for extract. These extracts will keep indefinitely.

Lue Gim Gong came to Deland, Florida, in 1888. He died here in 1925 and is buried in Oakdale Cemetery. His Lue Gong Orange was an early fruit that ripened in September, but it could hang on the tree for four years and still be good. But there's more of a manic, vaguely garage band energy evident on Citrus, the group's sophomore release (a vast improvement over their scattered debut). It's clear now that they're far closer to Blondie than My Bloody Valentine or Loop. The band has a woozy sound, but it's also tightly controlled and highly melodic, propelled by Interpol-ish bass lines.
