Pan Grease

This is an inexpensive, all-purpose alternative to store-bought cooking sprays.

1 cup shortening
1/2 cup all-purpose flour

Mix the shortening and flour, and keep in a container at room temperature.

To use, brush the grease on the pan with a pastry brush. As this contains no perishable ingredients, the shelf life is an extremely long one.

The party line on most Windham Hill products seems to be that it's either the greatest stuff since wave machines, or that it all sounds alike. On a Starry Night, with its collection of world songs and reputable artists such as Flora Purim, Airto Moreira, the Turtle Island String Quartet, and others, does lean toward a seamlessly understated, homogeneous quality that is broken only occasionally by Bobby McFerrin's piece and a couple of others. That said, there can hardly be a more mellow or sonorous album of kid's music anywhere. Starry Night could calm a nursery with no nurses; why, it could even soothe the pained yelps at the dog pound--and turn a freeway full of bumper-to-bumper sour pusses into pussycats. Effective? So instead of the film's story, which mixes scenes from both Neverland and WWII-era London, the game offers a completely generic plot about a secret map and hidden treasure. In fact, it verges on false advertising for this game to even bear the name of the film. Return to Neverland also suffers from interminable load times. If your character perishes, you have to wait while the same level loads again.

However, taken not as an adaptation of a film, but as a good, basic adventure for younger gamers, the game is just fine. The environments are fun to explore, and the action is just challenging enough to keep things interesting without making them frustrating. --David Stoesz
