VillaWare V3600-NS Prego Nonstick Pizzelle Baker

Though there are many recipes for making pizzelles, this waffle-like cookie has fairly ancient origins and is served at most banquets and feasts throughout Italy. The name pizzelle comes from the Italian word "pizze" for round and flat. It has been called the oldest known cookie, and it's believed to have originated in the Abruzze area of Italy centuries ago. Some people say the pizzelle made its debut at the village of Colcullo, during the Festival of the Snakes, when villagers celebrated a divine intervention that helped them expel the serpents overrunning the town. Others say it started at the village of Salle, where pizzelles are still baked today to celebrate the feast of Beato Roberto, a twelfth-century monk.
This VillaWare Prego Pizzelle electric Pizelle iron bakes batter quickly and easily so you can enjoy this delicious cookie fresh, every day. It helps make each day a feast. And each day should be a celebration. Add this to your kitchen today! Automatic thermostat Steam guard to protect hands from steam 110 Volt AC power cord Chrome finish with black handles

Their second album and first for Interscope is almost wholly brilliant. Like Mogwai, Sigur Ros and a dozen others, TVOTR excels at making slowly-evolving tunes with vaguely anthemic choruses and lots of loud-soft dynamics. Unlike virtually any of those other bands, TV on the Radio mix a genuine and actual songwriting ability with their knack for finding sounds that appear to be "new." This record is crisper-sounding and incorporates more dance-based elements, but it's essentially a pop album. While the lack of the free web-released "Dry Drunk Emperor, a tribute to President Bush, is initially a bummer, the album percolates with enough pre-apocalyptic tension to satisfy anyone. In a Prince-pitched falsetto, the group sings "I was a lover/ Before this war," While throughout, the combination of melody and invention is always pitch-perfect (well, except on "Province" and "Let the Devil In," those songs sort of suck.) People of Earth: please make this band into total superstars and buy several copies of their album: one for the car, another for the office, etc. What we really need in our popular music is more weirdness, and more truth. --Mike McGonigal

Sesame Street - Cookie Monster's Best Bites

View This Product at Amazon

America's favorite slave to baked goods, Cookie Monster, is the star of this very funny collection of comic sketches culled from the insatiable Muppet's tenure on Sesame Street. From the opening scene--in which the wild-eyed Cookie yields to pure impulse and devours a cookbook (rather than wait for a pastry recipe to be fully realized in his kitchen)--the longtime Children's Television Workshop character never fails to entertain with his charming anarchy. Also on the program are classic Sesame Street songs "C Is for Cookie" (and its spinoff, "C Drives Me Crazy," featuring a guest appearance by the Fine Young Cannibals), "If Moon Were a Cookie," and the touching "What Is Friend?" The high point, however, is the gravel-voiced Cookie's scene with actress Annette Bening, who helps him sort out the difference between a "Cookie Here and There." Wonderful stuff for all ages. --Tom Keogh

Christmas Cookies

View This Product at Amazon

Just when you thought the Oak Ridge Boys were all out of acorns, something whimsical and significant this way comes. These long standing kings of main street country have wrapped up a great little package of holiday merry making that will draw chuckles and occasionally dampen eyes. The title track explains why one guy savors his wife's Christmas cookies all year long (a fattening recipe for a happy marriage, in other words), and "Uncle Luther Make the Stuffin'" is a good old novelty tune about the family gathered a little too comofrtably for the holiday. Of course they flirt with the maudlin on a few tracks (how can you not at this most sentimental time of the year?). But even those tracks--especially "Ordinary Days" that sounds like a well crafted Jimmy Buffet tune written for a movie version for "Tuesdays with Morrie"--sound right at home next to the Christmas classics like "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "Jingle Bells," played here in hoedown time with dobros, guitars and fiddles a-blazing. In the familiar harmonies of the four Ridges, this album will be a welcome addition in their fans' collection. For everyone else, it will come as a mild and satisfying revelation. --Martin Keller

Multiple Maniacs

View This Product at Amazon

If you don't enjoy circus freaks, transvestites, and the idea of intimate relations with arthropods, then you probably won't get the humor in Multiple Maniacs. If, on the other hand, you enjoyed John Waters's infamous Pink Flamingos ("the filthiest film ever made!"), then check out this earlier attempt to shock even the most jaded moviegoer.

The story, such as it is, revolves around Lady Divine's Cavalcade of Perversions, a smutty sideshow featuring such depraved attractions as armpit lickers and "actual queers, kissing on the lips." Divine plays a homicidal dominatrix who slaughters hapless suburbanites lured by the carnival's cheap thrills. The filming, like the subject matter, is crude, but shows hints of Waters's keen eye for visuals, as in Divine's first scene, when the colossal drag queen wallows nakedly, ample backside to the camera, delivering his/her lines into a makeup mirror. Things really get going when emcee Mr. David decides to leave Divine for a more petite woman... and Divine's wrathful revenge is diverted by an apparition of the Christ Child of Prague. Before it's over, rabies, Charles Manson, and giant, randy lobsters all come into play. To enjoy Multiple Maniacs, there's just one strategy--sit back and take it. --Grant Balfour

Pink Flamingos (25th Anniversary Edition)

View This Product at Amazon

This is the movie that made John Waters famous, and quite possibly the film that made bad taste cool. Yes, Virginia, a large transvestite actually eats dog feces as a kind of dizzying denouement to this frequently illogical and intentionally disgusting movie, but by the time that happens, you're already numb ... and you've possibly laughed to the point of losing bladder control.

The plot revolves around two vile families laying claim to the title "The Filthiest People Alive." You've got pregnant women in pits, you've got grown men getting sexual satisfaction from chickens, you've got people licking furniture to perform trailer-park voodoo, and you've got classic lines like: "Oh my God! The couch ... it ... it rejected you!"

Waters, who went on to direct genuine pop-culture classics such as Hairspray and Serial Mom, made this celluloid sideshow with one aim--to make a name for himself. It worked. He does have a genuine eye for filmmaking (when the trailer burns down, you feel the white heat of Divine's pain and anger). On the other hand, you won't notice any disclaimers about stunt doubles and animals not being mistreated. There weren't, and they were. Welcome to the filthiest film in the world. --Grant Balfour

Cookie's Fortune

View This Product at Amazon

Dedicated fans of Robert Altman will want to check out this drowsy Southern comedy, which is shot through with the director's feel for location and his musical sense of storytelling. Non-Altman fanatics might want to tread more carefully. Cookie's Fortune begins beautifully, as handyman Willis (Charles S. Dutton) staggers home from a blues club in the small town of Holly Springs, Mississippi. In the wee hours of a warm night, he has an affectionate chat with elderly matriarch Jewel Mae "Cookie" Orcutt (the grand Patricia Neal) and the gentle history of their friendship is sketched in a few brief exchanges. Soon enough, Cookie has checked out of this world to join her dear departed husband, prompting her nieces to make the suicide look like a murder---to protect the dubious family name, of course. They are the local drama diva (Glenn Close), a Scarlett O'Hara in her own mind, and her dreamy sister (Julianne Moore), who ain't quite right in the head. Will Willis be blamed for the murder? Will the inheritance go to the nieces? Will Liv Tyler and Chris O'Donnell find a place to express their lust? None of these questions is especially burning, and Altman doesn't seem terribly anxious about the answers. Instead, he aims for a particular kind of laid-back quirky southern comedy, unevenly filtered through his screen of sour irony. Like a jazzman blowing improv, some of this works and some of it doesn't. Speaking of music, the film boasts a nifty R&B soundscape devised by former Eurythmics man David Stewart, with a boost from blues belter Ruby Wilson. --Robert Horton
