Mrs. Hubert Humphrey's Dinner-in-a-Dish
4 tablespoons shortening
2 green bell peppers, sliced
1 medium onion, chopped
1 pound hamburger
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 eggs
2 cups whole kernel corn
4 medium tomatoes, sliced
1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
Butter
Put shortening in skillet; lightly fry green peppers, onion and hamburger for 3 minutes or until partially done. Salt and pepper. Remove from heat; stir in eggs and mix well. Place 1 cup corn in casserole. Top with layer of meat mixture and layer of sliced tomatoes. Repeat until corn, meat mixture and tomatoes are used. Cover casserole with crumbs. Dot with bits of butter. Bake at 375 degrees F for 1 hour or until heated thoroughly.

Fortunately, this disc grows more interesting toward the midway point with Nouvelle Vague's Brazilian-style cover of "I'll Melt with You" and alterna-lounge act Pink Martini's "Let's Never Stop Falling in Love. The latter melts seamlessly into the lovely instrumental, "Assassination Tango." It's on these more exotic tracks that this compilation shines--if only there were a few more. Her plan includes camping out in the Metropolitan Museum, which happens to be the same museum that bought the enigmatic sculpture. While the family searches for the missing kids, Claudia becomes obsessed with solving the secret of the statue. Is it or isn't it a genuine Michelangelo? Like Claudia herself, the script is smart, and it never condescends. The direction is equally smart, and the cast is universally good--which is saying something considering there are so many child actors involved. With messages like "feelings matter as much as learning" and "if you believe in yourself, then you don't need to cheat," From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler is an excellent way for a family to spend time together in front of the TV. While local sheriffs try to unmask the murderer, Harry falls for Dr. Bainbridge in spite of his questionable character. As the plot thickens, so do the amusing antics and one-liners from Mrs. Murphy and Tucker. It's up to the animals to solve the mystery, despite their "pet peeves" over the bumbling efforts of humans. Lake is terrific as the low-key, likeable, but lonely Harry, and the rest of the cast deliver decent performances, but the biggest kudos go to our furry friends who save the day in a surprise ending that is certain to please family audiences. --Lynn Gibson

With all the use this dollhouse is sure to get, we are concerned that its construction may not hold up over time. The hinges and platforms seem sturdy, but they are made out of fairly thin plastic. Additionally, there aren't a lot of accessories that come with the dollhouse. This may not be an issue if your child already has dolls that will fit in this dollhouse, or if you invest in one or more of the fun accessory packs, such as Table Manners, A Book at Bedtime, or the Pet Playground.
