Nutty Noodle Nuggets
1 (6 ounce) package (1 cup) semisweet chocolate chips
1 (4 ounce) bar sweet cooking chocolate, broken into pieces
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups slivered almonds, toasted
3 cups chow mein noodles
Line cookie sheets with wax paper.
In a large saucepan, over low heat, combine chocolate chips, baking chocolate, sweetened condensed milk. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla extract. Add almonds and noodles; mix lightly.
Using 2 forks, drop the mixture into small clusters onto prepared cookie sheets. Refrigerate until firm. Store covered in a cool, dry place.
Makes 4 dozen candies.

Soak seed overnight The seed will swell considerably. Drain water through the muslin cloth, then rinse seeds in fresh water. Repeat the process, drain well and place jar on its side. Rinse seeds at least twice daily through the muslin cloth, until sprouts are ready to eat. This is essential to avoid fermenting, moldy seedlings. When ready to eat rinse and use straight from the jar. Growing Instructions: Sprouted seeds will store in an unsealed polythene bag in the fridge for 3 or 4 days. Rinse regularly.

So the sequel to the Nutty Professor features an all-star cast of R&B and hip-hop stars who do the serious stuff best. The smooth R&B tracks are offset by ferocious hip-hop grooves, creating a constantly shifting scene of alternating moods. Just as sentimentality hits its peak with Case's "Missing You," things are seriously shaken up by Method Man's "Even If." Sometimes the extremes seem a but much. Do Brian McKnight fans want to share time with Sisqo (featuring Foxy Brown) and Eminem (here with Redman), and vice versa? This may be a case where hearing it all in the context of the movie would help listeners make the less-than-obvious connections. Jerry Lewis's 1963 Jekyll and Hyde variation has always been tagged by two popular assumptions: one is that it is his best work as a comic filmmaker, and the other is that Lewis's Mr. Hyde equivalent--the slick, ultra-arrogant, good-looking womanizer Buddy Love--actually lampoons the director's former partner, Dean Martin. Well, The Nutty Professor certainly is Lewis's best film. But all one has to do is watch it to realize the motivation behind Buddy Love is more confessional: he's really much more like Lewis's darker, narcissistic side, while the shlubby scientist (also played by Lewis) from whom Love springs is closer to the star's screen image. You can watch all this psychodrama yourself and have a lot of good laughs at the same time with this unusual film, which still surpasses Eddie Murphy's recent remake--though not necessarily by a wide gap. --Tom Keogh
3 Stooges: Nutty But NiceView This Product at Amazon
Back when the "Blondie" comic strip was very young, Dagwood wanted to marry a flapper against the wishes of his rich family and staged a hunger strike for her sake. This is the basic premise of "The Sitter Downers" (1937, short number 27 in the Columbia series) in which the boys want to marry against a father's wishes and camp out in his living room. The second half is concerned with the now married Stooges trying to build a home for their brides with predictable disastrous results. Very funny at the start, stale material in the second section.
"Nutty but Nice" (1940, number 47) has the boys trying to help a melancholic girl by finding her kidnapped father. It starts interestingly with the boys as a team running a musical restaurant, but it turns to more familiar material as they try to escape from an apartment using the dumbwaiter. (They will never learn not to send Curly down first.) What makes this entry more interesting is that Vernon Dent gets to play a straight, sympathetic part that calls upon him actually to laugh at the Stooges' routines.
"Slippery Silks" (1936, number 19) starts with the boys as "fine" woodworkers--destroying a precious Chinese box brought in by Vernon Dent for reproduction--and then finding they have inherited a gown shop. After they reason that designing furniture and gowns is all the same, the results are truly funny as Larry's cabinet-like creations are displayed by attractive models who play it straight. However, the director (Preston Black) decided that the script needed a good pie throw (or cake throw in this instance) ending, and the last sequence offers nothing new along those lines. --Frank Behrens

Tom Shadyac (Liar Liar) directed Eddie Murphy in his raucous and inventive "comeback" film, a loose remake of the 1963 Jerry Lewis original. Murphy puts on full-body makeup to play Sherman Klump, a grossly fat college chemistry professor who creates a drug that releases the skinny person within. As in the original (when Lewis morphed into a caricature of former partner Dean Martin) the thin scenes are the most interesting, as the thrill of being handsome turns this sweet schlep into a club-crawling creep named Buddy Love. Jada Pinkett is the dream girl who loves Klump for himself, even after the potion wears off. Apart from some juicy fart jokes, a virtual trumpet concerto that erupts during a virtuoso family dinner scene (in which Murphy plays several roles), the humor is fairly gentle--although young children may find the presto-chango makeup effects alarming. For an effective, flat-out horror treatment of a similar theme, try the Stephen King adaptation Thinner. --David Chute
