Mandel Brot
3 eggs
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup oil
Dash salt
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 cups broken nuts (walnuts or pecans)
Mix eggs, sugar, extracts and oil in blender all together.
In dry bowl, put flour and baking powder. Add egg mixture to flour. Add heaping 2 cups broken nuts (bigger than chopped).
Spray cookie sheets with Pam.
Divide batter into thirds, place 3 rows of batter on sheets Bake 20 to 25 minutes at 350 degrees F. As soon as possible, slice 1/2 inch thick on 2 cookie sheets, sprinkle both sides on mandel slices with cinnamon and sugar. Put back in 250 degree oven 1 hour to dry. Will keep in tins forever!
NOTE: Batter may be extreme sticky.

But with the arrival of a special unit of the Civil Guard spreading the rumor that the barbarians are preparing to attack, he becomes witness to the cruel and illegal treatment of prisoners of war. Torture is used to obtain confessions from the barbarian prisoners, thus "proving" the necessity of the planned campaign against the tribe. Jolted into sympathy for the victims, the old man decides to take a stand. He attempts to maintain a final shred of decency and dignity by bringing home a barbarian girl, crippled by torture and nearly blind, and subsequently returning her to her people - an act of individual amends. This dangerous act brands him forever as a traitor after which he himself becomes a victim of public humiliation and torture.

Of course there is the very Seinfeld feel to this show in general, the tone, the self-involved lead character--and in the first few episodes there are actual storylines and even spoken lines taken almost verbatim from Seinfeld episodes, so much so that an avid Seinfeld fan may start to lose patience. Stick with it, though, because the Seinfeld-ian similarities wind down through the second half of the season and the Curb your Enthusiasm hilarity revs up. --Rachel Moss
