Source: Golda Meir Hadassah 50th Anniversary Cookbook With Love, From Generation...To Generation
1 egg, separated
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cup sifted flour
Vegetable oil (for frying)
3 Granny Smith apples
Confectioners' sugar
Beat egg yolk with water, oil and salt. Add flour and beat until smooth. Let stand at room temperature for about an hour.
Preheat oil in deep-fryer to 375 degrees F.
Peel and core apples, then cut into 1/4-inch rings. Beat egg white until stiff; fold into batter. Deep-fry, turning once, until golden brown. Drain on paper towel. Dust with confectioners' sugar before serving.

So it's up to the callous American to convince him that he wants to give this all up to live in a dorm and chase coeds (while, of course, honoring his ancestors). When high-school science nerd Barney Springboro develops the power to move objects with his mind, he immediately uses it to burst the buttons on a busty cheerleader's fuzzy pink sweater. Welcome to Zapped!, a classic example of teen sex comedies from the 1980s (such as Porky's, Private Resort, Revenge of the Nerds), combining awkward adolescent romance with a breast obsession that is somehow both leering and innocent. There's not much plot to speak of: Barney (one-time teen heartthrob Scott Baio) uses his powers to win a baseball game, get back at his oppressive parents (who try to have him exorcised), and help his best pal Peyton (Willie Aames, Eight is Enough) get laid with the aforementioned busty cheerleader (buxom blonde Heather Thomas, The Fall Guy). Along the way there are peculiar fantasy sequences about Star Trek and Einstein, as well as a strangely drawn-out subplot about the school principal (Robert Mandan, Soap) placing a personal ad. Zapped! is sprinkled with nudity and four-letter words, but what's even more striking is how the budding relationship between Barney and would-be reporter Bernadette (Felice Schachter, The Facts of Life) feels genuine and sincere--far moreso than the plastic, prefabricated romance of contemporary teen comedy. In fact, up until the berserk prom sequence when Barney goes into a weird, horndog-Carrie frenzy of telekinetic clothing removal, Zapped! is surprisingly sweet and will provide a dose of warm nostalgia for guys who grew up watching these movies. --Bret Fetzer

Kamakawiwo'ole's appeal lies in his love for prestatehood, precondominium Hawaii and the expressiveness of his gently passionate voice, which can float through higher registers with an ease that brings Johnny Mathis to mind. Several selections ("Ka Pua U'i," "White Sandy Beach of Hawai'i," the sun-kissed "La 'Elima") feature Kamakawiwo'ole in a traditional mood, using only his ukulele to adorn the charm of his native lyricism. Others, such as the Jimmy Buffett-like "Maui Hawaiian Sup'pa Man" add playful contemporary touches that suit Kamakawiwo'ole's style. Most touching are the string-backed laments that open and close the album, "Hawai'i '78 Introduction" and "Hawai'i '78," initially a reflection on his father's death, later on the passing of Hawaii's native culture. Not only is The Nightmare Before Christmas one of the best musicals of the past two decades; it may well be Danny Elfman's masterpiece, successfully integrating his main influences (from Cab Calloway to Nino Rota) into a fantastic whole. The first disc of this reissue features the original soundtrack, its songs still teetering between dark humor and poetic flights of fancy; this so-called kids' music is at least as sophisticated and skilled as anything you're likely to hear on Broadway. The second disc includes demo versions of four songs on which Elfman plays and sings everything, and five new covers of some of Nightmare's best-loved songs. Marilyn Manson successfully applies his spooky Weimar-circus style on "This Is Halloween" while Panic! At the Disco's lushly orchestrated take on the same tune is closer to the original. Fiona Apple's poignant "Sally's Song" is enhanced by very nice string charts, and She Wants Revenge does a disco take on "Kidnap the Sandy Claws." Best perhaps is Fall Out Boy's cover of "What's This?" which sounds like an unexpected cross between the Beach Boys and Queen. A highly recommended set. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Author David Pogues iPhone 2E Tips
The beauty of the new iPhone 3G is that you dont need one. Almost all of the juicy stuff actually comes with the iPhone 2.0 software and the online App Store, both of which run perfectly well on the old iPhone as well. That, incidentally, is also the beauty of iPhone: The Missing Manual, 2nd Edition. It covers both the old and the new iPhones, because it covers the 2.0 software, the iPhone App Store, and so on. Here are a few of my favorite tips from the book:

1) At the top of the screen, little icons indicate how youre connected to the Internet: an E for the vast but dog-slow AT&T Edge network, a 3G icon if youre on the faster but limited-area AT&T third-generation network, and radiating signal bars if youre on Wi-Fi. The tip here: The two cellular icons (E and 3G) disappear whenever youre on Wi-Fi. Thats not a mistake. The iPhone assumes that Wi-Fi is faster and better than any cellular network, and if youre on it, you dont care about E or 3G (and its right).
2) Unfortunately, 3G is a battery hog. If you dont see a 3G icon on your iPhone 3Gs status bar, then youre not in a 3G hot spot, and youre not getting any benefit from the phones 3G radio. By turning it off, youll double the length of your iPhone 3Gs battery power, from 5 hours of talk time to 10. To do so, from the Home screen, tap Settings->General->Network-> Enable 3G Off. Yes, this is sort of a hassle, but if youre anticipating a long day and you cant risk the battery dying halfway through, it might be worth doing. After all, most 3G phones dont even let you turn off their 3G circuitry.
3) More ways to save power: turn off more features. In Settings, you can turn off Bluetooth; Wi-Fi; GPS; "push" data; and the cellphone radio. Each saves you another bit of power.
4) When typing on the on-screen keyboard, you can save time by deliberately leaving out the apostrophe in contractions like Im, dont, cant, and so on. Type im, dont, cant, and so on. The iPhone proposes Im, dont, or cant, so you can just tap the Space bar to fix the word and continue.
5) To produce an accented character (like é, ë, è, ê, and so on), keep your finger pressed on that key for 1 second. A palette of accented alternatives appears; slide onto the one you want. (Keys that sprout these alternative versions: E, Y, U, I, O, S, L, Z, C, N, ?, ', ", $, and !.)
6) Even if youve engaged the silencer switch on the side, the iPhone still sounds any alarm youve set. Good to know.
7) You probably already know that you can rearrange your Home screen, and even set up multiple Home screens (up to 9). Just hold your finger down on any one icon until they all begin to wiggle. Now you can drag them to rearrange them (even onto the Dock of four special icons at the bottom), or drag off to the right to create a new Home screen. And what if, in the process of downloading and then deleting new App store programs, you wind up with unsightly gaps on your Home screens? Heres a quick way to consolidate them onto a smaller number of full Home screens, without gaps: tap Settings->General-> Reset->Reset Home Screen Layout. If youd put 10 programs on each of four Home screens, you wind up with only two screens, each packed with 20 icons. Any leftover blank pages are eliminated.
8) If you come to the iPhone from another, lesser GSM phone, your phone book may be stored on its little SIM card instead of in the phone itself . In that case, you dont have to retype all of those names and numbers to bring them into your iPhone. In Settings->Contacts, the new Import SIM Contacts button can do the job for you. (The results may not be pretty. For example, some phones store all address-book data in CAPITAL LETTERS.)
9) If youve indulged yourself by downloading some goodies from the App Store, then you may find yourself wondering where youre supposed to adjust their preferences. Turns out they often get stashed away in a completely different programin Settings. Thats where Apple encourages software authors to locate their own setting screens. For example, heres where you can edit your screen name and password for the AIM chat program, change how many days worth of news you want the NY Times Reader to display, and so on.
10) Dont type http://www or .com when entering Web addresses. Safari is smart enough to know that most Web addresses use that formatso you can leave all that stuff out, and it will supply them automatically. Instead of http://www.cnn.com, for example, just type cnn and hit Go.
11) Dont type .net, .org, or .edu, either. Safaris secret pop-up menu of canned URL choices can save you four keyboard-taps apiece. To see it, hold your finger down on the .com button. Then tap the common suffix you want.
12) The iPhone can now geotag the photos you take with it. Geotagging means, "embedding your latitude and longitude information into a photo when you take it." After all, every digital picture youve ever taken comes with its time and date invisibly embedded in its file; why not its location? So the good news is that the iPhone can geotag every photo you take. How you get to see this information, is a bit trickier. Once the photos are synced to your computer, you can view the geotag information in iPhoto (the Get Info command reveals latitude and longitude), Preview (the Inspector window shows a map), Picasa (use the Tools->Geotag menu to see the photos location in Google Earth). Unfortunately, the iPhone strips away the geotags whenever you send a photo by e-mail. Thats a good argument for using the free downloadable program AirMe instead of the iPhones built-in camera program. It avoids that geotag-stripping problem and many others.

This expansion adds a host of content to the already massive existing game world. Players will achieve soaring levels of power, explore Northrend (the vast icy continent of the Lich King), and battle high-level heroes to determine the ultimate fate of Azeroth. As you face the dangers of the frigid, harsh north, prepare to master the dark necromantic powers of the Death Night -- World of Warcraft's first Hero class. No longer servants of the Lich King, the Death Knights begin their new calling as experienced, formidable adversaries. Each is heavily armed, armored, and in possession of a deadly arsenal of forbidden magic.
If you have a World of Warcraft account with a character of at least level 55, you will be able to create a new level-55 Death Knight of any race (if on a PvP realm, the Death Knight must be the same faction as your existing character). And upon entering the new world, your Death Knight will begin to quest to level 80, gaining potent new abilities and talents along the way. This expansion allows for only one Death Knight per realm, per account.
New Environments in Northrend Await
Journey through the remote, diverse lands of Northrend and explore Dragonblight, Grizzly Hills, Borean Tundra, and Howling Fjord. Named for bones of perished dragons and majestic shrines to the fallen creatures, Dragonblight is an arctic wasteland surrounded by dense forests.
Not everything is frozen in Northrend. The lush mountains of Grizzly Hills are the ancestral home to the furbolgs, who have grown accustomed to relative peace. Although their tranquility is being challenged by trappers, goblins, and ice trolls, Grizzly Hills remains a vast and dangerous wilderness.
The southwestern tip of Northrend is home to the sprawling Borean Tundra. The Horde has established a dominant presence in this icy portion of the continent and has formed a bond with the tuskarr, a walrus-like race of nomadic fisherman. Magical energy is afoot in the region, and it has caused increased tension.
High above the Great Sea at the southeastern tip of Northrend lies the Howling Fjord. Ancient mythology holds that a race of half-giant warriors, the vrykul, once inhabited the land, founding a prosperous civilization. They mysteriously vanished, leaving deserted villages and abandoned temples. In present times, the Alliance and the Horde have come to Howling Fjord to confront the Lich King. Strangely, this has prompted the return of the vrykul, who are attacking the Alliance and Horde settlements. Howling Fjord presents a difficult challenge on two fronts: withstanding the vrykul's onslaught and battling the evil Lich King.
A Multitude of Monsters
Strange and terrifying creatures inhabit the frozen continent of Northrend, such as Nerubian Viziniers, Plague Eruptors, Shoveltusks and Flesh Giants, to name just a few. Half-spider, half-humanoid, the viziniers utilize sorcery and high intelligence to emerge as the rulers of Nerubians' underground kingdom. The Plague Eruptors are walking corpses created by the Lich King's evil experiments to spread horror and chaos across the living world.
Massive curved antlers make it easy to identify the Shoveltusks. These grumpy beasts are very dangerous, territorial, and best left alone. The Flesh Giants are nothing short of nightmarish abominations. Cobbled together from the pieces of giant body parts, the Flesh Giants employ tremendous strength to carry out the Lich King's wishes.
The World of Warcraft: Wrath of King Lich expansion pack allows you to engage in epic siege warfare. The pack presents the first Hero class and allows you to transform your Death Knight's look with character customization that even include hairstyles and dances. You'll enjoy exploring the Northrend and all its environments and dungeons, filled with some of the deadliest creatures -- and greatest treasures -- on all of Azeroth.
